The IASI Annual General Meeting is confirmed for Saturday 25th October in Kilternan, Ireland and it will involve an election. One of IASI’s board members, Fiona Mullen, Company Secretary will be stepping down, two co-opted board members (Stephen O’Hara, Education and Blue Martin, Comms) will need to have their positions confirmed by vote, and two board members (Dáire O’Connell, Chair, and Rich Egan, LCP Liaison) will also be standing for re-election.
IASI’s constitution requires that at least two board members are Irish residents, so Fiona’s replacement will need to be currently resident in Ireland. The board would especially like to encourage applications from women to remain compliant with Sport Ireland’s policy enforcing a minimum of 40% female representation on the boards of Irish sporting organisations.
Under Irish law, a company secretary’s responsibilities include ensuring legal and regulatory compliance, maintaining statutory registers (like members and directors), filing annual returns and other forms with the Companies Registration Office (CRO), supporting the board by preparing agendas, minutes, and providing guidance on governance, and managing communication with members.
If you are interested in standing for election as Company Secretary to IASI’s board, and are an Irish resident, please email admin for more information.
The first IASI Alpine Summit will take place 31st October – 2nd November in Cervinia, Italy. This event combines educator selection and training with the opportunity for all IASI members to ski, train (for free!) and socialise together.
Look out for a dedicated email about this event in the next week, including an accommodation update
We’re running a weekend for current and potential educators in Kilternan, near Dublin, on 20th-21st September.
Saturday 20th will be an open day promoting, developing and strengthening IASI education, so if you are a current IASI educator, or you’re an instructor who might be interested in becoming an educator in the future and want to know what it takes, or just want to find out more, please do come along and get involved. The format will be a series of workshops, including opportunities to ski with and get coaching and feedback from L4 Educators, try out Kilternan’s new bumps, and take part in a session on career pathways. There may even be some fun racing at the end.
The Sunday is exclusively for IASI’s current Ireland-based educators and the focus will be on maintaining high standards — both in their own work and in evaluating others.
For more information, please email Mikey Edwards, IASI’s Head of Education directly.
We have just updated the Course Calendar again, and are pleased to announce IASI’s first ever ISIA CTT to be run in Pila, Italy, in March by Impulse Racing.
Hot off the press, there’s also a L1 Freestyle Coach course being held by Ski Definition on 22nd September (in 3 weeks time!) so if you’re working towards your L3 Alpine, or want to know how to coach in the snowpark, check that out.
IASI ran its first webinar on Sunday 31st August featuring IASI members Warren Smith and Nick Golden being interviewed on skiing biomechanics by Irish ski journalist Catherine Murphy. If you missed it live you can view it on IASI’s YouTube channel. Many thanks again to our excellent panelists for a lively and informative session!
The board is in the process of developing a policy and process to help ensure that IASI’s full educational pathway will be available every year, even if there isn’t enough demand to run a full course. Once it is agreed it should go into immediate effect, so if you’re interested in attending one of the less frequent courses, keep an eye on the course calendar, and make sure you express your interest when possible courses are advertised.
As mentioned in the August newsletter, the IASI board is doing some work on future strategy in advance of this year’s AGM. We are finishing up the interviews this week. Thank you very much to everyone who has volunteered their time to be interviewed – the insights we have gained are extremely valuable, and should feed into a very interesting path forward.
