Mountain Safety

Mountain Safety

Mountain Safety is a vital part of the snowsport instructor training and IASI offer two levels of training and certification in this area. The courses meet international requirements and form part of the level 3 and level 4 ski instructor qualifications.

Below are links to each level of Mountain Safety training & certification; Level 1 Off Piste (OP) Security and the Level 2 Back Country (BC) Security. The overview of the complete Mountain Safety Pathway can be found by clicking here. We also run an optional 2-day Mountain Skills workshop focusing on navigation.

Level 1 Off Piste Security

The Level 1 Off Piste security is the first award available in the mountain safety qualification pathway.

This certification forms part of the Level 3 Ski Teacher and Level 3 Snowboard Teacher awards. Holders of this award can work off piste within the boundaries of the ski area and where a ski patrol operates provided the ski school and/or laws of the country allow you to do so.

Level 2 Back Country Security

The Level 2 Back Country security is the highest award available in the mountain safety qualification pathway and is part of the Level 4 Ski Teacher award.

Holders of this award can work off piste outwith the boundaries of the ski area except on glaciated terrain or where mountaineering techniques are required.

The award is recognised internationally and forms part of the Euro Test requirements.
